WCQ 2018 :NIGERIA VS ALGERIA ; CHELSEA DUO SINK ALGERIA.

The Chelsea duo of Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel got the goals as the Super Eagles secured a 3-1 win over Algeria in Saturday’s World Cup qualifying match inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium .

It was the 50th home World Cup qualifying game for the Eagles and the Nigerian players turned up style.


Moses and Mikel scored a goal each in the first half before the Chelsea winger sealed victory with a late goal in the second half.

Nigeria now have two wins from as many games in the World Cup qualifying series.

Coach Genort Rohr made four changes to the starting line up that played the game against Zambia as the Franco-German exhibited his tactical acumen yet again.

The quartet brought in were Victor Moses, Oghenekaro Etebo, Daniel Akpeyi and Leon Balogun.

First Half

After adopting a cautious approach in the early exchnages, Moses got the opening goal in the 26th minute when he was played on by Mikel and got some help from an Algerian defender before firing past goalkeeper M’Bolhi.

The Super Eagles increased their tally three minutes from the interval when Mikel beat the offside trap set by the Desert Foxes controlled, the Super Eagles skipper had a moment of hesitation before he rolled the ball beyond the Algeria goal keeper.

Second half

Algeria did not go down without a fight as they pulled a goal back in the 67th minute, when Nabil Bentaleb from distance fired in a rasping shot

However Moses put the game beyond the North Africans in stoppage time, when he fired home off a low cross by substitute Ahmed Musa.
